Here are five unusual examples of vintage Christmas memorabilia -- they are advertising "pinbacks" that would have been worn by store employees, or given away as premiums by retailers during the holidays.

The first reads "Seasons Greetings" and "Happy New Year," and features a classic illustration of Santa Claus, with a sack of toys on his back. This lapel pin is further decorated with two ribbons, in red and greenish-gold. This piece is still mounted on its original backing card, and is in mint condition.

Next is a pin that promotes a retail store and reads "I Met Santa Claus at Lewis's Toy Fair." This classic mid-century design features Santa Claus, dressed in red, against a green background. The front of the pin is in excellent condition, while the reverse has expected oxdation to the tin.

The third pin appears to date from the very early 1900s, and reads "Davidson Bros. Co., "The Big Store". From my research, it appears that this store was located in Sioux City IA, and by the 1920s grew to become the largest department store in the state. By the 1940s, they merged with a competitor. This antique pin has quite a bit of crackling on the front, but this does not interfere with the image. The reverse retains its original cardboard insert from the manufacturer, The Phila. Badge Co.

Next we have a pin labeled Peck's Toy Center, and it features an illustration of a waving Santa with a toy sack on his back. Holly leaves adorn his red suit. There is a little discoloration under the coating, and some rust on the back.

The last pin is another one from Lewis's Toy Fair, and features a smiling Santa against a green background. The front is in excellent condition, and the back has some expected oxidation.

These five wonderful examples of early twentieth to mid-century holiday advertising or retail memorabilia would be a great addition to the collection of holiday collectibles, or retail advertising memorabilia.
